A New Year

Life In General No Comments »

It's 2010.  What the...?  I spent the night drinking champagne and watching The Empire Strikes Back.  It was quite relaxing!

I haven't said much the past ~4 months.  I don't have a very good excuse other than being busy and not having a lot to say.

I'm thankful that, at the time of this writing, I still have a job. My friends and family are healthy.  Life is going smoothly.  What more could I ask for?

Here is to a year better than the last. May anyone reading this be blessed!

It’s been a while…

It's been a while since I have posted here. I don't know if it just that I've been overly busy (work, school, etc) or that I haven't felt there is anything worthwhile to say. Things are exactly the same as they have been for the past several months - at least in my own life. For the most part I've just been pinching every penny just in case since the world seems so volatile. I've watched a few friends lose their jobs, others have had their pay cut by up to 10% and the light at the end of the tunnel seems dim.On a positive note, after two years of my mom having pain in her stomach and repeatedly talking to doctor after doctor... one finally did an exploratory surgery and located scar tissue that was causing the issue and removed it. Here is hoping to a speedy recovery (and that the issue won't recur).

I'm still going to the gym, eating healthy and all that... which brings up something I saw on Consumerist a week ago. Two clowns (working at a Domino's pizza) thought it was funny to make a video where they do horrible things to food while they prepare it. Despite the possibility of the incident being a "YouTube prank", it just reaffirms my already solid disinterest in eating food prepared by anyone I don't know. While I don't care for their pizza, I do feel pity for Domino's pizza... more power to Domino's for taking them to court. Other news I've been watching closely is the case against The Pirate Bay - where the greedy corporations are trying to stifle technology (imo) to make another dollar because they aren't innovative enough to utilize P2P for their own benefit. I hope TPB wins either the 'conflict of interest', which would make the guilty verdict be thrown out, if not that at least to win their appeal.

Let's see what else? I am looking for a new place to live since my lease ends in August and I am ready for a change after being at my current residence for over two years. I have a few ideas but I fully intend on taking my time until I find exactly the right fit.

School is out in two more weeks. I will be glad to not have to drive to Kokomo twice a week. I really have enjoyed the class (macroeconomics); the current economic situation has dramatically increased my interest and the professor relates everything to real world numbers.Regarding my most recent musical tastes I have been listening to PIG for the past couple months on a near daily basis, as my last.fm profile will show, my favorite song being Blades (KMFDM Remix). Raymond Watts is incredible. I really hope he is working on new material. On a similar note, the new album Blitz by KMFDM was almost a complete letdown; I just couldn't get into it like the past few albums. I guess my expectations were too high.

That's all for now...

Happy New Year!

It has been a while since I have wrote... the Holidays are always a rough time. You would think I'd have more time but really since I'm going all over the place to visit with people I end up having less. I spent all of Christmas with my parents which was nice and relaxing. Dad and I saw Valkyrie on Christmas day - we both enjoyed it. Apart from that the best part was watching my nephew open the Christmas presents we brought him. He is 2 coming up on 3 soon, so he gets really excited about it and can't seem to figure out which toy to play with. I'll post some photos I took later on when I'm home after I find my camera. I seem to have misplaced it somewhere between my parents and my apartment.

For New Years JoAnn and I went to her cousin Sarah's place. We played Battle of the Sexes, drank beer and got to know one another It was rather interesting since it was 3 white guys and 3 asian women. It was the first time I met Sarah; I can tell why JoAnn looks up to her like a sister. We had a lot of fun talking about Hmong culture, social issues, etc.

The holidays were great this year... and I am totally not ready to start the daily grind up again.  I am also goign to take a class or two this semester.  That's all for now.

Fallout 3: Awesome game. Terribad ending!

Life In General No Comments »

Talk about anticlimatic.  You're going along... and just like anywhere else in the game you are given a decision to make.  Unfortunately, that decision ends the game.  Game over.  My options ended up being kill myself or let someone else be the "hero".

This person did a great job of summing it all up on Bethesda's Fallout 3 Cheats, Hints and Spoilers forum:

The voice over showed several pictures that had only vague connections to the monologue or none at all. You see about 4 series of these pictures and thats it! I hate how there's no specifics about what happened in each town/area you did quests for! I worked my butt off to make sure I left each town in just the right state. I spent hours doing quests in the hope that the ending would live up to the previous games' endings. What a total dissapointment!

I got to the ending with a full suit of completely repaired power armor and some serious firepower... but I had only completed about 60% of the quests available.  I am now going back through on an earlier save to complete these areas.  I just wish I was still ignorant to the crappy ending.

Apart from this... the game is incredible.

Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Danger of Death…

Life In General 2 Comments »

I remember when I was younger how Thanksgiving meant eating Cornish game hens with my family (no - we don't eat turkey) and having a few days off from school was what the holiday was all about.  This past weekend was pretty nice... time away from work, visiting my family and eating loads of good food.

However, I am left disgusted with what American culture has become.  What a total socioeconomic failure.  Black Friday indeed.  You're telling me someone has to die because you are in such a hurry to spend the money you probably don't have on a bunch of crap that you more than likely don't even need?  You've got to be kidding me.

I didn't go out the morning of  Black Friday and for good reason.  After last year of going to Kohl's and finding a line of 100+ people in 2 lines at the registers I decided against it.  Now I am swearing it off entirely.  People are like a herd of  wild animals when they get into a group.  The more people gathered into a single place the more idiotic the group becomes.  Like a stampede of scared buffalo only rather than fear they are driven by a dollar amount tied to material objects.

Pathetic.
