I bought my mom a ZALMAN CNPS7700-ALCU 120mm 2 Ball CPU Cooling Fan to try to quiet down her machine. I put everything together nice and neat after having to take everything in the computer apart (including unscrewing and removing the motherboard). I booted up the machine and it gave me a long loud piercing whine (Fan Off-Control) telling me something wasn't set up correctly. I didn't figure that it was the CPU fan... I figured it was the graphics card or possibly not getting the CPU fan installed correctly. After a couple hours of working on her machine it booted up and worked the entire night... until it was turned off. When mom came back to turn on her computer, it gave her the same annoying high pitched scream that I had been listening to all night the previous night. I had to investigate what was going on so I got to poking around and discovered that the CPU fan remote that I installed was set to silent mode (lowest RPM possible). Apparently, the FOC only allows a specific ranged to consider the fan functional. Once I turned it up to max the machine ran fine again. So that's the scoop on the Soyo KT400 Ultra Platinum Edition motherboards with alternate heatsinks.
